Here is a little History about OTR Speedway.![]() (4-13-10) Well it has been a long decade but time marches on at OTR Speedway. Many things have changed over the years but one thing remains constant. Fun is priority number one each and every race night at the track! We have just finished resurfacing the track and have installed new retaining walls for the 2010 racing season. The track run-line now stands at 195' with 10' wide racing lanes. The straights are banked slightly at 5 deg. with hairpin turns 1 & 2 at 25 degrees and wider turns 3 & 4 with a modest 18 deg. of banking. The surface as always remains a 80/20 clay/topsoil mix for a nice loamy loose dirt feel. At the beginning of the 2009 season a pit lane was added much to the delight of racers and worked out very well. Lighting is ever expanding and there are a dozen track lights illuminating the racing deep into the night! We also have built a scoring and drivers stand. Power, Water, and restrooms are available and there are pit tables for driver use on race days. We run AMB Timing and Scoring with house transponders available on race days. 2009 was a benchmark year for OTR Speedway with car counts averaging into the 30's every race night. We held 9 events in 2009 and there was a tremendous amount of support from the local racing community, local hobby shops, and online vendors. We look forward to another great year in 2010 and hope to grow once again. (4-14-08)It might be hard to imagine but R/C Oval racing is a bit addicting. To the average person our "Group" might seem to be grown men holding tight to a childhood dream but to those who know it's much more. OTR Speedway or Oval Track Racing Speedway as few know of it anymore was started over a decade ago by a kid looking to have some fun with friends. Today the track you see pictured above has seen some crazy wrecks, fast laps, and even crazier drivers. But one thing that was true back when the track was but a small oval in the yard is still true today. Racing ANY form of R/C car with others is a very rewarding hobby and to those of us who understand it is one great way to spend an evening.
In 2000 I headed for college and the track would become overgrown until late in
2004 when the first re-construction would take place. The original layout had
20' straights,35' radius corners, and was 6' wide. In 2004 the track would get it's much needed face-lift which included banking in the corners and was widened to 8'. This configuration lasted until the spring of 2006 when it's new surface would finally
be planned and built. In 2006 the track would be widened to 10' with 40deg. of
banking in the corners and the overall length would be stretched to 130'. A
front stretch pit lane would be added that is 4' wide and runs the length of the
front stretch. I would also add 8" retaining walls in the corners. The racing
surface is a sand-clay mixture which is pretty smooth and has a lot of grip.
Even with the small 130' length the banking provides for great 2 and 3 wide
racing and a lot of fun. We race many types of R/Cs including 1/10th Electric,
1/10th Nitro, and 1/18th scale Mini's.![]() If it's racing under the lights that you like we also have lights here at OTR Speedway! We use several 500 watt light polls to light up the night. We also have power and water available at the track to keep the dust down and to plug in chargers. Parking around the track is available and there is also parking at the house.
